Barrett played Claudio in The Hartford Stage production of William Shakespeare's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, directed by Mark Lamos in the the early Fall of 2002.

The show was a co-production with The Shakespeare Theater in Washington, D.C., and ran there from November 5, 2002 to January 5, 2003, with music by John Gromada, music direction by Lynne Shankel, and choreography by Seán Curran. The cast also included Karen Ziemba (Beatrice), Kathleen Early (Hero), and Dan Snook (Benedick).
